Brookings has such an unusually mild
climate it is often referred to as the "Banana Belt" of
Oregon. Conditions that produce the warm climate are complex
and meteorologists call this phenomenon the "Brookings
Effect." The temperatures average between 50 to 68 degrees
year 'round. (Check out Today's
Weather.) As you can see from the chart below,
an average low ranges from 41F in December to 53F in August.
The average high ranges from 68F in July, August,
September to 53F in August. A record high of 103F was
recorded in September of 1973. The record low of 17F
happened in December of 1932. We will average around 74" of
precipitation a year.
